What Makes A Professional And Competent Manager?
Is a management qualification, degree or MBA the mark of management competency and excellence in management? Does the possession of such management degrees and recognition qualify the holder as a professional and competent manager?
At MIM (Malaysian Institute of Management) the national professional management organisation, we believe that the hallmark of a competent professional manager is more than an MBA or a string of management degrees. An MBA or academic qualifications do not indicate practising competency in management leadership (managership) although it does indicate its holder has acquired the knowledge and
know-how to get the job done.
Only when the management qualification is coupled with the right values, attitude, knowledge, skills and managerial competency displayed and practised at work can we say that we have the makings of a competent professional manager.
Today's innovative era requires much more of the competent professional manager than just a paper qualification. Work experience, attitude and managership competencies account for the other half of the competent professional manager's qualification. |
With over 40 years of management excellence in training and managerial development, MIM has introduced the MIM Certified Professional Manager Assessment Programme. The objective of this assessment programme is to objectively assess and enhance the managerial competency in the performance of the manager and his/her knowledge application.
MIM Certified
Professional Manager
Presently, there is no formal distinction between a manager of a small business
e.g. neighbourhood store or coffee shop and a manager of a large organisation or
multi-national company. Both are managers but in a different capacity and capability.
The MIM Certified Professional Manager Assessment aims
to provide the distinction of recognition of the managerial capabilities of these
different breeds of managers. It is a formal managerial competency assessment that seeks
to place these managers based on their academic qualifications, knowledge, skills,
experiences, managerial competencies and behavioural attitude and aptitude into their
managerial level.
Why Certification
The MIM Certified Professional Manager Assessment Programme formally
certifies and provides a discernable distinction in the managerial profession, which has
long been lacking as compared to other closed professions like medicine, accountancy,
auditing, engineering, etc.
With the MIM-CPM,
- The management professional and managership competency is defined clearly
- It enhances the quality of management practitioners
There is a
measurable result of managership competency for individuals and organisations
The
MIM-CPM is deemed to have achieved the prescribed standards of managerial competency
as befits his/her level of work
